Looking for Kobe beef or steak in Osaka? Start by deciding what you want to eat, where you want to go, and how much you want to spend. This guide explains how to tell certified Kobe beef from other wagyu, then compares eight restaurants on the Kobe beef association's registered list for Osaka City, with their posted hours and price ranges. It is a practical comparison, not a ranked list.
For more restaurant ideas, see our Kobe beef restaurants guide and Osaka steakhouses guide. The hours and prices below were taken from each restaurant's official page or facility listing on 5 November 2026. Menus change with the season and the supply of beef, so check the linked page before you book.
What Counts as Kobe Beef
Kobe beef is a trademarked brand of Tajima strain Japanese Black cattle raised in Hyogo and certified by the Kobe Beef Marketing & Distribution Promotion Association. Wagyu is not automatically Kobe beef, and A5 is a yield and quality grade, not a synonym for Kobe.
That distinction matters when you compare menus. A restaurant may offer wagyu or A5 beef, but those words alone do not establish that a particular serving is certified Kobe beef. Several restaurants below serve both Kobe beef and other wagyu, often at very different prices, so read the course name carefully.
Step 1: Find the restaurant. Use the association's registered shop list and filter for Osaka Prefecture and restaurants. Check the name and address carefully, particularly when a business has more than one location.
Step 2: Ask for the certificate. Registered restaurants can show an association certificate. Do not rely on menu wording alone.
Step 3: Confirm your order. Ask which items on the current menu are Kobe beef. A restaurant's registration tells you it is registered to serve or sell Kobe beef; it does not mean that every beef item on its menu is Kobe beef.
A Note on Steak Misono
Older guides, including some on this site, list Steak Misono's Osaka branch in Kitashinchi. The Misono brand site listed only its Kobe, Kyoto and Shinjuku restaurants on 5 November 2026, and map listings show the Osaka branch as closed. If you want to eat at Misono, plan around one of the locations on the brand site; for Osaka, use the registered restaurants below.
How to Choose a Steak Spot in Osaka
You can narrow your choices in four steps. The right starting point depends on whether certification, cooking style, location or budget matters most to you.
Step 1: Decide whether you want certified Kobe beef. If you do, look for a course or cut that names Kobe beef, not just wagyu or A5. If you are open to other wagyu, several restaurants below offer Japanese Black (kuroge) wagyu or domestic beef courses at a fraction of the Kobe price.
Step 2: Choose a cooking style. Most restaurants here are teppanyaki counters, where a chef cooks in front of you. BLT Steak is a Western-style steakhouse, and Ishida serves sukiyaki and shabu-shabu. If steak is not essential, those are other ways to enjoy beef.
Step 3: Pick an area. The restaurants below are in Umeda, Kitashinchi, Namba/Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi. Choose the one that fits the rest of your day. Our Umeda area guide and Namba area guide can help you plan around the meal.
Step 4: Compare lunch and dinner. Lunch is usually the cheaper way in. Murakami, BLT Steak and Ishida all list lunch prices well below their dinner prices, and Oh! My Steak lists a weekday lunch set. Not every restaurant opens for lunch every day, so check the hours below.

Other Ways to Eat Beef in Osaka
You may decide that the cooking style matters as much as the cut. For sukiyaki and shabu-shabu, Ishida above is a registered example. For yakiniku ideas, see our Tsuruhashi yakiniku guide. If you are organising a meal around Dotonbori, our Dotonbori restaurants guide has more places to explore. Inclusion in another guide does not establish Kobe beef registration, so check the association list if that matters.
Budget and Reservations
Use the price ranges above to set a rough budget:
- Under ¥5,000: lunch sets at BLT Steak and Murakami (non-Kobe beef), Oh! My Steak's domestic beef steaks or weekday lunch set, and Ishida's lunch.
- About ¥10,000–¥20,000: Kobe beef at Oh! My Steak by weight, Murakami's Kobe lunch set or dinner course, Steak Ron's 100g Kobe cuts, and Ishida's Kobe sets.
- ¥20,000 and up: full Kobe beef courses at Zin, TATARA, BLT Steak and Wagyu Katana, and larger cuts or chateaubriand almost everywhere.
Check what is included before you compare totals. Murakami (dinner), BLT Steak (from 17:00) and Steak Ron add a 10% service charge, Wagyu Katana adds 5%, and the association guide lists Ishida's set prices before tax. Several course prices apply only when two or more people order.
When you book, give the date, the number of people and the course or cut you want. Several of the official pages above, including Zin, TATARA, Wagyu Katana and Oh! My Steak, link to online booking, which is easier than calling if you do not speak Japanese.
FAQ
Is all wagyu Kobe beef?
No. Kobe beef is a certified, trademarked brand of Tajima strain Japanese Black cattle raised in Hyogo. Wagyu on a menu does not automatically mean Kobe beef.
Does A5 mean Kobe beef?
No. A5 describes yield and quality grade; it does not establish the Kobe brand. Ask about certification if you want Kobe beef.
How much does Kobe beef cost in Osaka?
At the restaurants above, an 80g Kobe A5 sirloin starts at ¥9,980 at Oh! My Steak, and a 100g Kobe sirloin lunch set at Murakami starts at ¥11,880. Full Kobe beef dinner courses are mostly ¥17,000–¥33,000, with premium courses going higher.
How can I check a restaurant's registration?
Search the association shop list using the Osaka Prefecture and restaurant filters. Match the name and address, then ask to see the association certificate. Confirm which dish you are ordering.
Is Steak Misono in Osaka still open?
Misono's brand site listed only Kobe, Kyoto and Shinjuku on 5 November 2026, and map listings show the Osaka branch as closed. Use the brand site for its current locations.
Should I choose lunch or dinner?
Lunch is usually cheaper: Murakami, BLT Steak and Ishida list lower lunch prices, and Oh! My Steak has a weekday lunch set. Wagyu Katana opens for dinner only, TATARA serves lunch only at weekends and on holidays, and Steak Ron serves lunch on some days from Thursday to Saturday.
Final Thoughts
Start with the beef you want, verify the registration if Kobe certification matters, and choose an area and cooking style that fit your plans. Then use the hours and price ranges above to shortlist one or two restaurants, and check the official page for the current menu before you book.
