Last updated: November 2026
My first job in high school was at McDonald's. (Don't worry, that fast-food chain is nowhere near this list.) Consequently, I ate burgers rather often. Whenever I did, Japanese people would tell me, "hamburger niau ne!" (translated, "that hamburger goes well with you!") They seemed to have this stereotype that American people are always eating some type of burger. I can't say that they're wrong in thinking that.
Gradually, the Japanese people have begun to realize just why that is: burgers are so frikkin' delicious! One of the results of Japan's continuing Westernization is more good hamburger shops, and Osaka has plenty of them. This list of 6 independent burger shops will help you get started. They are all independent local operations, not national chains. (The order is not a ranking of quality or popularity.) We checked every shop on 3 November 2026, and where we couldn't confirm something, we say so and suggest you check before you go.
Where Can You Find the Best Burgers in Osaka?
"Best" depends on what you want, but the independent burger shops are concentrated around Horie, Shinsaibashi and Namba. Craft Burger Co. in Kitahorie is the easiest to plan around: its official site lists its hours and says the patties are 100% domestic beef, ground in-house daily. The Butcher, near Namba Grand Kagetsu, serves charcoal-grilled burgers and steaks. Rich Garden's main shop in Nishi-Shinsaibashi is a good pick for a sit-down burger and a drink. Critters Burger in Nishi-Shinsaibashi and Burgerlion in Kyomachibori are also still operating. Opening hours change, so check each shop's latest information before you go.
BURGER JOINTS IN OSAKA #1: CRITTERS BURGER
Critters Burger is a hamburger specialist in Nishi-Shinsaibashi. Servings are on the Japanese side, so if you are really hungry, don't hesitate to order more than one. The shop's own website was not loading when we checked, so check the latest opening hours and menu before you go. If you want a decent burger in Shinsaibashi, Critters Burger should be high on your list.

BURGER JOINTS IN OSAKA #2: BURGERLION
Update: Burgerlion is no longer in Awaza. It now operates as BURGERLION -UTSUBO A GOGO at 1-9-10 Kyomachibori, Nishi-ku, a short walk from Higobashi Station.
Burgerlion is known for gourmet-style burgers, and it is the original shop behind The Butcher, the next shop on our list. If you want to sit down and unhinge your jaw on a juicy burger in Osaka, this is a good place to do it.

BURGER JOINTS IN OSAKA #3: THE BUTCHER
If you liked Burgerlion, make sure to check out its second shop. The Butcher opened in 2016 as a meat-focused spin-off, and it lives up to the name. It is a steak and hamburger specialty shop near Namba Grand Kagetsu, a relatively rare combination for that area. According to its Instagram, it serves charcoal-grilled burgers and steaks made by a butcher, along with skillet dishes and side menu items that go with drinks.
This is a good choice for anyone feeling homesick for a big, meaty burger. Opening hours here change: the shop posted a shortened weekday-evening schedule on its Instagram in September 2026, so check the current hours before you go.

BURGER JOINTS IN OSAKA #4: CRAFT BURGER CO.
Craft Burger Co. is in the fashionable Kitahorie area of Osaka. Its patties are 100% domestic beef, ground in-house daily, according to the official site. Craft beer is part of the shop's identity too, which makes it a good place to get your buddies together for a burger and a drink.
The indoor space has 17 seats and is non-smoking. The terrace has 10 seats, and smoking and pets are allowed there. Reservations are possible from 16:00. The shop's menu is posted on its website as images, including an English version, so you can look at it before you go.

BURGER JOINTS IN OSAKA #5: RICH GARDEN
Rich Garden is an American-style cafe bar and a superb place to relax on a sofa with a burger. The main shop is in Nishi-Shinsaibashi, near Amemura. There is also a shop in Nakazakicho, in the Umeda area, so make sure you pick the right one when you plan your trip. The wooden interior is decorated with green plants, which makes it a calm place for a night out or a date.
The shop posts limited-edition burgers from time to time, so it is worth looking at its Threads page before you go. We could not confirm one set of opening hours across sources, so check the latest hours there.

BURGER JOINTS IN OSAKA #6: ANY'S BURGER
The last shop is known for giant, American-sized burgers. It is near Tanimachi Rokuchome Station, about a three-minute walk from Exit 3. The shop has no official website, and the hours listed on restaurant sites don't agree, so check the latest information on the shop's Instagram before you go. If you're after a burger so big you can't pick it up, this is the one to try.

The next time you're craving a hamburger, don't settle for franchise fast food. Take the time to hunt down one of these independent shops and treat yourself to a proper meal. There is a satisfying variety of styles, from big, meaty burgers to craft-beer burger bars, and they are spread all over Osaka waiting for you to show up.
